Great article, Brandon, I left a comment there and I'll be back to this topic thread for a bit of further discussion (later), as this is an interesting topic for a number of reasons.

I am still probably 6 months out from producing any song projects (as a song writer/composer) but I've been progressing in musical playing skills.
For me, I am working on achieving an adequate level of instrument playing skills to to be able to produce the intended musical effect along with each song. This musical instrument level of skill is as a songwriter and not as a final stage performer or recording artist. I'll leave that performance level and final composition to the professionals who take an interest in the songs.

However, it is very important, in some cases essential for me to create the fundamental musical mood and atmosphere of the song. I'll never be the best guitar player around, for example, but I hope to excell in some of the creative aspects.
